A Laser Marking Machine Can Be Easy to Run — If It Is Set Up Correctly
In practice, many problems that look like “laser problems” are actually parameter, focus, fixture, material or software problems. Installation and initial testing are therefore important parts of getting a new machine into production.
Wrong Focus
If the focal position is not correct, the marking may appear weak, blurred or inconsistent even when the laser source itself is working normally.
Wrong Parameters
Power, speed, frequency, pulse settings and hatch parameters all affect the final result. A parameter that works on stainless steel may not be appropriate for another material.
Wrong Fixture
If the workpiece moves during marking, the problem may look like poor laser accuracy. A stable fixture is often more important than simply increasing laser power.

We Start With the Material — Not Just the Laser Power
When a customer asks us, “What power should I use?”, the answer is usually not simply 20W, 30W or 50W.
We normally need to know the material, marking requirement, desired contrast, marking depth, cycle time, graphic size and production method before recommending a parameter range.
